Warhammer Online – Preview Weekend

Due to a lucky turn of events over this last weekend I was able to try out Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning a couple weeks before the actual open beta begins. Needless to say I was excited. Over the last few months the hype finally set in and I was looking forward to WAR.

Pirates of the Burning Sea – Server Shut Downs

Pirates of the Burning Sea is the pirate MMO we all wanted. Pirates, ships, things blowing up!

What isnt awesome about that? POTBS is what is considered the thinking man’s MMO with more strategy in between wood splintering and masts falling apart.

However the game has meet sub par success and Flying Lab Software has made the announcement that it will be reducing the number of servers from 11 to 4.

Higher player density is always a good thing but closing servers this early in its life cycle cant be good.

Warhammer Online – Target Audience

Some of the most talked about features on the upcoming MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning are its expansive and direct approach to PvP (Player Vs. Player) or RvR (Realm Vs. Realm) however is this strategy viable in competing with or even outdoing World of Warcraft?

It would seem as if it could with the World of Warcraft forums filled daily with talk of how the PvP in WoW has died and that Warhammer Online will be the answer to their cries. No doubt people who PvP constantly on WoW but dislike it immensely will immediately move over to Warhammer Online. However the selling point of WoW has always been both its ease of use for new and casual players. No other way could an MMO reach ten million subscribers without somewhat appealing to mainstream gamers as a whole.

World of Warcraft: On the Decline?

With a recent report coming from WarcraftRealms saying that active players on World of Warcraft have been steadily declining over the past few months many are asking themselves and others if WoW has reached its peek.

The release of Warhammer Online and other Massively Multilayer Online Role-Playing Games in development are being called the best chances at dethroning the most successful MMO to date. However are these numbers really evidence of the end of WoW?
